SAERA Come & Try Endurance Day

A relaxed, educational and welcoming day for new riders, returning members, and anyone wanting to start the season with a positive training ride
GO IN THE RUNNING TO WIN AN OPTIGUT PRIZE DRAW BY ENTERING BOTH THIS EVENT AND ANY DISTANCE IN THE CALLINGTON ENDURANCE RIDE ON 14 MARCH 2026
- BYO chair
- Buckets for horse water (some of your own water if your horse is picky)
- People drinking water
- All required feed/hay for your horse
- Yard (optional) - electric or panels - panels must be secured to the ground with a star dropper
- Dogs on leads
- Completed TPR paperwork- if wishing to complete the TPR school
- Stethoscope & thermometer
- All rubbish, manure and hay to be bagged and taken home - please bring your own bags. At official endurance events all horses require a 4 day temperature log - 3 days prior to event + day of event prior to travel - give it a go for the come and try to practice for the real thing - see Horse Health Declaration form attached
ITINERARY
7:30am - Gates Open
8:00am - Meet & greet with coffee and McCue's delicious donuts
Followed by instructive talks on:
- Administration and entries- how rides work and what to know
- Vetting endurance horses and vet ring procedure
- Tack and saddlery
- Rules, Welfare & Safety (Chief Steward talk)
- Course introduction, track markers, ride etiquette and general safety on course
10am RIDE START
- 16km marked course
- Experienced riders available to provide mentoring and support
- Expected completion time 2 hours (12pm)
- Post ride strapping assistance and training
- Mock vetting (heart rate and trort up)
- Followed by a ride debreif
TPR School
- Hands-on practical session:
- How to take temperature, pulse, respiration
- What normal looks like
- Why being a TPR is important in endurance
- Become a registered TPR Steward
- Participants can practice on their own horses.
